What is a ManTrap?
A mantrap is a secured access solution designed to manage entry and exit to and from a facility. Visitors must go through 2 doors, only one of which can be opened at a given time ensuring that only authorized persons come through the door.
Here’s how it works: a visitor requests access to a facility through a buzzer or intercom unit. When a staff member buzzes the person in, they enter a secured room. Meaning they are secured between 2 locked doors, the doors can only be opened using a key or a remote control or button operated electric strike (door buzzer). Typically, there would be a security window or surveillance camera in this room to verify the person(s) who requested access. The second door cannot be open until the first door has closed behind them (unless a key is used). This strategy secures the facility in the following ways:
- Ensures only authorized people enter or exit the facility and that no person(s) are holding secured doors open for unauthorized person(s).
- Ensures secured exit from the facility since energizing the electric strikes is the only way to open the door. This prevents theft of equipment or goods.
- Provides a secured waiting room.
